Description of an Catherine G. Williams Diversity Awardee

NASW-Iowa Diversity Committee honors a social worker who has demonstrated and made a commitment to the advancement of diversity in the social work profession.

The award recipient must have:

  • at least 10 years of service in the social work field;
  • demonstrate cultural awareness and competence;
  • promote diversity and inclusivity within the social work profession;
  • effectively integrate culture, values, and ethics in their practice of social work; and
  • exhibit a strong commitment to the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.

NASW-Iowa Chapter recognizes a member of NASW who exemplifies professionalism in social work. This individual should demonstrate exceptional professional qualities, which makes them stand out beyond the expectations of their job.

The award recipient is an individual who:

  • is a current member in good standing with NASW;
  • demonstrates leadership qualities;
  • effectively integrates experience with education, personally and professionally in an effort to support our community;
  • shows a willingness to take risks for improved social services and is able to enlist public support for improved social services;
  • contributes to the public’s knowledge of social work in a particular area of expertise;
  • and represents the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.

Description of an NASW IA Public Citizen of Excellence

NASW-Iowa Chapter honors someone who, though not a social worker, has an understanding of social work and a personal commitment to support social work goals and ideals.

The award recipient is an individual who:

  • makes a significant contribution to an area or population of concern to the social work profession such as at-risk or vulnerable populations, quality of life within communities, or social issues
  • acts with courage
  • demonstrates outstanding leadership; and
  • exemplifies social work values and ethics.
