What led you to run for the NASW Iowa Chapter Board?

I was asked to by Tony (Raymer)

How did you decide to go to social work school?

I was encouraged to by a social worker that was a colleague of mine.

If you could give one piece of advice to social work students, what would it be?

Find a mentor who will challenge you.

If you could give one piece of advice to new social workers, what would it be?

Get out of your comfort zone, keep learning, and get consultation.

What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long week?

I like to bake and spend time with my family.

A client appointment or a meeting is cancelled 15 minutes for it was scheduled to begin:

How are you likely to spend that “found” hour?

I will get all my paperwork caught up, take advantage of the time seek a consult, return emails, or read up on a technique or presenting concern.

                What would be your preferred way to spend that “found” hour?

Doing the above mentioned - It allows me to keep my work at work and being efficient allows me to be home and be more present in my life outside of work when I am not working.

From whom do you seek consultation?

A variety of people depending on the reason for the consult.

You’ve won the Lottery. It’s a lifechanging amount of money. 

                What would you do differently?

Incorporate more luxury into my life (nice vacation, getting my nails done, etc), donate more money to causes I find important.

                What would you keep the same?

My job

If you were not a social worker, what would be your fantasy career?

I would have a small bakery.
