NASW-IA Chapter Awards

Nominations now open for the NASW-IA Chapter Awards 

To make nominations for these awards, complete the nomination form linked below, which includes space for a written statement (up to 4,000 characters) explaining why your nominee should be honored by the NASW Iowa Chapter, based on the qualities outlined below for the specific award. Letters of support are highly recommended and should be emailed to linc.naswia@socialworkers.org.  

Nominators of award winners may be asked to help collect information to be used in awards video.

All nomination materials must be received by 8 am, central time, Mon. 7-1-24.  The award winners will be recognized at the NASW-IA Annual Symposium in September 2024.

2024 CATHERINE G. WILLIAMS DIVERSITY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

In 2011, the Diversity Committee of the NASW Iowa Chapter developed the Diversity Lifetime Achievement Award to honor individual social workers who have demonstrated and made a commitment to the advancement of diversity in the social work profession. The Award is now named for the first recipient - Catherine G. Williams.

The Diversity Committee invites you to nominate individuals for the award who meet the following criteria:

  • Has at least 10 years of service in the social work field.
  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and competence.
  • Promotes diversity and inclusivity within the social work profession.
  • Effectively integrates culture, values, and ethics in their practice of social work.
  • Exhibits a strong commitment to the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.


2024 EMERGING SOCIAL WORKER AWARD -- new this year!

This new award award has been created to specifically honor an individual who has been a social worker for 5 years or less.

Emerging Social Worker

  • Is a current member in good standing with NASW.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities.
  • Effectively integrates experience with education, personally and professionally, to support our profession, the individuals, and communities we serve.
  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and competence.
  • Promotes diversity and inclusivity within the social work profession.
  • Effectively integrates culture, values, and ethics in their practice of social work.
  • Exhibits a strong commitment to the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.
  • Has been a member of the social work profession for five years or less.

2024 SOCIAL WORKER OF EXCELLENCE GUIDELINES

Each year the NASW Iowa Chapter recognizes excellence from our membership.   Do you know a member of NASW who exemplifies what our profession is all about? This individual should demonstrate exceptional professional qualities, which make them stand out beyond the expectations of their job.

·       Is a current NASW-IA member in good standing.

·       Demonstrates leadership qualities.

·       Effectively integrates experience with education, personally and professionally, in an effort to support our community.

·       Shows a willingness to take risks for improved social services.

·       Is able to enlist public support for improved social services.

·       Contributes to the public’s knowledge of social work in a particular area of expertise.

·       Represents the professional ethics of social work as defined in the NASW Code of Ethics.


2024 PUBLIC CITIZEN OF EXCELLENCE

As we honor our profession, we seek to honor a Public Citizen -- someone who, though not a social worker, has an understanding of social work and a personal commitment to support social work goals and ideals.

The Iowa Chapter Board enlists your help in nominating an individual who:

  • Is not a social worker.
  • Is involved in addressing social injustices and inequities.
  • Demonstrates active involvement in their community.
  • Exhibits ethics and values that align with the NASW Code of Ethics.

Use the universal NASW-IA chapter award application form to make nominations for any of the awards.  Be sure to address the criteria for the specific award in your written statement.  Letters of support are highly recommended and should be sent to: linc.naswia@socialworkers.org
