Summary:
With the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, social workers are finding themselves stuck between personal value, employer values, and the values of the social work profession. Rather than treating artificial intelligence like an enemy we need to tame, this workshop will lead participants in an exploration of what it looks like if social workers develop a collaborative relationship with AI.
Goals & Objectives
1. Describe the historical evolution of social work ethics and the tension created by rapidly evolving technology
2. Explain how core principles from the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics (e.g., service, dignity and worth of the person, confidentiality) apply to AI-assisted practice.
3. Assess at least three potential benefits and three ethical risks of using AI in social work settings, including issues like bias, privacy, and informed consent.
4. Create at least two actionable guidelines for incorporating AI into their professional roles while maintaining ethical and legal standards.
5. Explain ways to act upon the ethical mandate to address systemic unfairness, serve and advocate for vulnerable and oppressed populations, promote diversity, and work for a just society.
