Eating Disorders: Defined, Treatment and Body Image (Virtual Event)

Summary:

Eating Disorders are a serious, yet treatable illness.  While they are the second leading cause of death of all psychiatric illnesses, early diagnosis and intervention is key.  Signs and symptoms can vary considerably and are generally not based on someone's appearance.  Treatment is individualized to best meet the client's needs.  Understanding the influence of societal beliefs and social media is crucial.  The hope is that social workers will help create a healthier environment by reducing weight-based judgments while implementing neutral and inclusive language when discussing bodies, food and health.

Preseters Goals & Objectives:

- identify most common eating disorders and their signs and symptoms

- identify treatment options for those with eating disorders

- understand the impact of social media and society on body image
