Workshop Description
This training will cover the basics of infant (ages 0-3) development, attachment and how they contribute to a child's mental health. Additional topics will cover what disruption or trauma in these areas looks like and what are the best options for treatment. Target audience - anyone working with or interested in working with young children, pre or postpartum mothers and fathers, or adults with relationship difficulties. Available resources and referral options for children and families will be identified.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Identify basic developmental milestones of children age 0-3 and how these are important indicators of mental health
- Identify the basics of attachment and its relevance to mental health
- Describe the rupture and repair process and need to re-attune
- Identify the serve and return process and its role in attachment
- Recognize possible signs and symptoms of a mental health concern in this age group
Presenter:
Rebecca Williams, LISW, IMH-E®, obtained her MSW from the University of Iowa School of Social Work in 2012. Since then, Rebecca has served as a mental health consultant in a child development center and as a lead therapist at a larger community agency. In 2018, Rebecca established Open Hearts Therapy, a private practice located in West Des Moines, with a primary mission to deliver exceptional therapeutic services across all age groups and foster a healthy and supportive environment for fellow therapists. Rebecca is trained in EMDR therapy, is a rostered Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) provider, and is actively pursuing registration as a play therapist which has taken her to a Theraplay training. Rebecca maintains endorsement as an Infant Mental Health Specialist. She offers supervision to individuals in her current role and advocates for social workers' rights and professional growth. A dedicated member of professional associations including National Association of Social Workers, Iowa Association of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, Iowa Association of Play Therapy, and the International Association of Play Therapy. Rebecca has also contributed her leadership skills as the Secretary of the NASW IA chapter from 2022 to present.
