Workshop Description:

Information will be provided on signs of a domestic abuse survivor, domestic abuse dynamics and supporting a domestic abuse survivor in a trauma informed approach.

Workshop Goals:

• Learn how to recognize signs of a domestic abuse survivor
• Better understand the dynamics of domestic abuse
• Provide trauma informed support to survivors of domestic abuse

Presenters:

Stacy Granger, BSW, CDAA - I graduated with my Bachelor’s in Social Work in 2011. I have worked at Children & Families of Iowa for a little over twelve years. My first job at CFI was as a Family Centered Services worker providing support to and supervising visits for HHS involved families. I’ve worked at Domestic Violence Services as a Domestic Violence Outreach Advocate and Certified Domestic Abuse Advocate for ten years. As an advocate, I work with domestic violence survivors and provide them with healthy relationship/domestic violence education, safety planning information, and resources focused on helping them increase their self-sufficiency. At times, I support survivors at their court hearings, which could include a protective order hearing, HHS hearing, or divorce/custody hearing. I facilitate support groups and classes for survivors and facilitate community presentations. I used to work a lot with children, but now primarily work with adults. I feel very passionate about the work I do and enjoy walking alongside and advocating for survivors. 

Lori Jensen, BS, CVA - I graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Sociology and Children and Family Services. Since 2013, I’ve been working at Children and Families of Iowa, and I’ve served as an Advocate since 2015. I feel incredibly fortunate to support individuals and families affected by domestic abuse. I believe it's crucial to educate others about coercive control and to assist people in supporting those who have experienced abuse from an intimate partner.
